Herbert Norman Schwarzkopf (SHWORTS-kof, German:[ˈʃvaʁtskɔpf]; August 28, 1895 – November 25, 1958) was the first superintendent of the New Jersey State Police.
He is best known for his involvement in the Lindbergh kidnapping case. He was the father of General Norman Schwarzkopf Jr., the commander of all Coalition forces during the Gulf War in 1991.
Early life
Schwarzkopf was born in Newark, New Jersey on August 28, 1895.
He graduated from Barringer High School.[1] He received an appointment from Walter I. McCoy to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduated in 1917[2] and served in World War I.[4]
