          Matteo Renzi was born in Florence, Tuscany on January 11, 1975, the second of four children.

          His father, Tiziano Renzi, was a small business owner and Christian Democrat politician. Raised in a devout Catholic family, Renzi attended the State Classical Lyceum Dante where he faced expulsion due to his involvement in the student movement.

          Renzi's interest in politics developed early.
